Born in Cagliari on 22/11/1945, Professor Gaetano Di Chiara earned a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Cagliari, Italy. He spent the next three years in the Laboratory of Chemical Pharmacology of the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda, Maryland (USA). Back in Italy, he became Postdoc and then Assistant Professor in Pharmacology at the University of Cagliari impotenciastop.pt. He also taught Toxicology and Pharmacology II at the Faculty of Medicine.
In 1979, Professor Di Chiara won the concourse and became Full Professor in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Three years later he has been called by the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Cagliari, where he founded the Department of Toxicology, which he has lead as Dean since 1997.
Professor Di Chiara has been President of the Pharmacy Deans Conference, of the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society (EBPS) and of the Federation of the European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). According to ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) of Philadelphia (USA), he is amongst the most cited researchers in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. His research is focused on drugs that affect the central nervous system and the mechanisms of neurotransmission at the core of marauding, stereotyped and drug-addicted behaviour.
