Terry-Samaras (bw250x202)Dr Eleftherios Samaras is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Hertfordshire. His research is focused on the chemical analysis and predictive modelling of designer drugs.

Dr Samaras completed his BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UK), his MRes in Bioinformatics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) and his PhD in Pharmacy at the Medway School of Pharmacy of the Universities of Kent and Greenwich (UK).

He is specialised in quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) models, molecular modelling, chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, data mining and statistical analysis.

Dr Samaras is engaged in the EU-Madness project as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Chemical Analysis and Predictive modelling of Designer Drugs.

His tasks include, but are not limited to, creating a detailed database of a list of known Novel Psychoactive Substances, calculation and comparison of chemical structural fingerprints, structural clustering comparing different parameterised techniques, selection of cluster representatives based on similarity and dissimilarity mean scores, submitting order forms of the chemical representative compounds and propose alternative compounds in case of their non-availability, creating COSHH and Risk Assessment forms, developing a method and writing a standard operating procedure for Raman spectroscopic analysis of small amounts (3-5mg), chemical analysis of the representative compounds using Raman and NMR techniques, pre-processing of the spectroscopic data using specialised software such as Unscrambler, as well as preparing the dataset for predictive modelling.
